Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 September 2026
Kerbwise ("we", "our", "the app") helps drivers in London check parking rules for streets near them. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and what we do with it. We do not require an account to use Kerbwise, and we collect as little personal data as possible.
Location data
Kerbwise uses your device's location, with your permission, only while the app is open ("when in use"). We never request or use background/"always" location access. This is used to:
- Centre the map on your current position and show nearby parking rules.
- Tag an issue report or a "missing street" report with a location, if you choose to submit one.
- Save a "parked car" location, if you choose to use that feature.
Your location is sent to our server only when needed to fetch parking data for the area around you, or when you submit a report. A "parked car" location you save is stored only on your device (local device storage) and is never sent to our server or to any third party.
You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. Kerbwise will still work with reduced functionality (you can search for a street or area by name instead).
Search
When you search for a street, postcode, or area, your search text is sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim, a third-party open-data geocoding service, to find matching locations. Search queries are not linked to any account, since Kerbwise has none. See Nominatim's own usage policy for how they handle that data.
Reports
If you submit an issue report or a "missing street" report, we store the report content (issue type, an optional message, and a location) so we can review and improve our parking data. Reports are anonymous. We do not attach any account, device identifier, or contact information to a report.
Maps
The map itself is rendered using Apple Maps (on iOS) or Google Maps (on Android), provided by the operating system / Google Maps Platform. Their own privacy policies govern data handled by the map rendering itself:
What we don't do
- We don't require you to create an account or provide your name, email, or phone number.
- We don't use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
- We don't sell or share your data with data brokers or advertisers.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
Notifications
If you choose to set a parking reminder, it is scheduled entirely on your device using your operating system's local notification system. We do not send push notifications from a server, and reminder content never leaves your device.
Data retention
Reports you submit are retained so we can review and act on them. Since reports are anonymous, we have no way to identify or delete a specific person's individual report history. Parked-car locations and app settings live only on your device and are removed if you uninstall the app or clear its storage.
Website analytics
Everything above describes the Kerbwise app. Separately, the kerbwise.app marketing website itself (not the app) uses Google Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. Google Analytics uses cookies and may process data outside the UK/EEA; see Google's privacy policy for details, or use the opt-out browser add-on if you'd rather not be counted.
Children
Kerbwise is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, note them in the app's release notes.
